Chakana

HISTORY AND PRESENT DAY

We’re a young project, founded in the year 2002. Always motivated by a spirit of bettering ourselves, of high quality and of generating an impact through conscious winegrowing.

2002

On May 3, "Chakana Day" the company, founded by the Pelizzatti family, was born. At the same time, 300 hectares of land were acquired in Agrelo, Luján de Cuyo, Mendoza, Argentina.

2003

We had our first successful harvest of grapes at Finca Nuna in Agrelo, Luján de Cuyo.

2005

The launch of the second warehouse in the winery was finalized.

2007

An exhaustive study of our soils began; another warehouse and a proprietary fractionation line were built.

2009

In the middle of November, one of the biggest late frosts in history affected 70% of the vines at Finca Nuna.

2010

An enthusiastic group of families who were moved by the passion and strength of the project join the winery as shareholders. The constant search for quality, which began a few years ago, is already beginning to manifest itself with the exploration of new farms, as a deep criticism of the current concept of "quality", the appreciation of agroecology and alternative productions.

2010

A new 15-hectare farm is purchased south of the Tunuyán River, in Paraje Altamira, San Carlos, Valle de Uco: “Finca Los Cedros”.

2011

The expansion into new international markets is consolidated, in addition to the reorganization of the wine portfolio.

2011

The third property of the Winery is obtained, with the acquisition of 25 hectares in Place Altamira: "Finca Ayni".

2012

We started the formal transition to organic certification. In addition, we received a visit from consultant Alan York, the world's leading reference in biodynamics.

2014

Our Agrelo winery and vineyard, Finca Nuna, obtains organic certification!

2016

Chakana obtains Demeter certification for Finca Nuna, after more than four years following biodynamic agricultural practices. Demeter International is the only agricultural association that advises, inspects, certifies and guarantees that producers adhere to the set of values, principles and practices proposed by biodynamic agriculture.

2018

For the first time, we make and launch our line of sulfate-free wine: “Sobrenatural”. At the same time, in Paraje Altamira, we have the first harvest of our iconic wine “Vientre.”

2019

In December, the Pelizzatti family stepped down from the project. Chakana continues with this same spirit and purpose under renewed leadership.

2020

Ayni Malbec was voted one of the three best Malbec wines in the world at the Decanter Wine Awards, the award ceremony of the prestigious English magazine.

PRESENT DAY

Chakana celebrates its first 20 years by celebrating the learning and achievements reached along its journey.

With enormous gratitude for those who make and made the purpose that we set out for ourselves possible. Recognizing that today we are a benchmark and model in winegrowing due to our essence and philosophy. We are ready and full of enthusiasm for what is to come, expanding our purpose of generating awareness through the winegrowing of the future.
